Marco Bezzecchi has undergone a routine procedure to clean the wound on his left knee, the latest consequence of his heavy crash during Q2 at the German Grand Prix held at the Sachsenring last weekend (July 10-12).
The 27-year-old Aprilia Racing rider, who had already undergone surgery on a fractured collarbone the day after the incident, underwent the procedure this morning. Aprilia confirmed that Bezzecchi has already returned home and will continue his rehabilitation ahead of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, scheduled for August 7-9.
"Marco Bezzecchi underwent a routine procedure this morning to clean the wound on his left knee, an injury sustained during his crash at Sachsenring," read an official statement from Aprilia Racing. "Bezzecchi has already returned home and will continue his rehabilitation ahead of the Silverstone GP."
The crash in Germany brought an abrupt halt to Bezzecchi's golden run. The Italian has not finished a Sunday race since his victory at Mugello in May, accumulating just 13 points in the last four grand prix weekends — all from Saturday Sprints, only two of which he completed.
This slump has seen him drop from the top of the championship standings to fourth place. With 186 points, Bezzecchi now trails his teammate Jorge Martin by 22 points and sits 4 points behind Marc Marquez, who was 102 points adrift after the Italian Grand Prix.
The next stop is Silverstone, a track that holds fond memories for the 27-year-old. It was there in 2025 that Bezzecchi claimed his first victory with Aprilia, the first of three wins that season. His final two victories of 2025 sparked a five-race winning streak that only ended at the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix. The declared target is to return to competitive form in Britain and reopen his title challenge.
