Bologna have completed the signing of Niger international left-back Rahim Alhassane from Real Oviedo for a reported fee of €3.5 million, the Serie A club announced on Monday.
The 24-year-old becomes the first Nigerien player in Bologna's history after putting pen to paper on a contract at the Stadio Dall'Ara. He completed his medical examinations over the weekend before the deal was finalised.
Alhassane, who can also operate as a centre-back, made 28 competitive appearances for Real Oviedo last season across LaLiga and the Copa del Rey. Although he did not register any goals or assists in that campaign, his athleticism and intensity from the left flank caught the attention of several European clubs.
AS Monaco had also expressed interest in the defender, who has earned 23 caps for Niger since making his senior debut. Bologna moved quickly to secure his signature, negotiating the fee down from an initial asking price of €4 million.
"We are delighted to welcome Rahim to the Bologna family," read a club statement. "He is a modern left-back with great running power and a strong offensive predisposition. This move represents an important step in his career."
Alhassane came through the Spanish football system, developing at Real Oviedo where he established himself as a first-team regular. His performances in LaLiga earned him consistent call-ups to the Niger national team, where he is now a key figure.
The signing bolsters Bologna's defensive options as they prepare for the upcoming Serie A season, with Alhassane expected to compete for a starting berth on the left side of defence.
