The Connecticut Sun defeated the Portland Fire 90-87 on Tuesday, July 14, in Uncasville, Connecticut, turning the game around thanks to a strong contribution off the bench.
Aaliyah Edwards, coming off the bench, finished with 21 points, while Brittney Griner added 20. The Sun stretched the lead to 90-83 with 1:13 on the clock through a coast-to-coast reverse layup by Leila Lacan, before suffering a missed layup and a turnover by Lacan herself with 20 seconds left that briefly reopened the contest without, however, costing them the win.
For Connecticut it is a significant victory in a difficult season, while the Fire remain stuck at the bottom of the standings.
