Former Manchester City centre-back John Stones is scheduled to arrive in Milan on Thursday 30 July for his medical examinations ahead of a free-transfer move to Inter, according to multiple reports.
The 32-year-old England international, whose contract at the Etihad expired on 30 June after a decade with the club, has agreed a two-year deal worth €4 million net per season with the Nerazzurri. He will sign through to June 2028.
Stones had been in discussions with Juventus, Arsenal and Chelsea among other clubs, but ultimately accepted Inter's proposal over the weekend. His arrival adds further Premier League pedigree to a backline that already includes his former City teammate Manuel Akanji, who joined Inter last summer.
The pair were central figures in Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side that won the treble in 2023 — Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup — and shared seven major trophies across three seasons together at the Etihad. Stones also won the Champions League again in 2025 before his contract was allowed to run down.
A product of Barnsley's academy, Stones moved to Manchester City in 2016 for an initial £47.5 million and went on to make over 300 appearances, lifting 20 trophies including four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the 2023 Champions League final in Istanbul, where he started as a holding midfielder alongside Rodri.
He is currently on holiday after representing England at the 2026 World Cup, where Gareth Southgate's side finished third. Inter's squad are in a pre-season training camp in Germany under head coach Cristian Chivu, meaning Stones is likely to join up with his new teammates only after their return to Italy.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Stones' signing represents a strategic addition to an Inter defence that already boasts Akanji, Yann Bisseck and Alessandro Bastoni. The two former City men could form a familiar axis at the heart of the back three, with Akanji capable of shifting to the right when required.
Stones played 62 Champions League matches for City, scoring six goals and providing four assists. His experience in Europe's premier competition is seen as a key asset for an Inter side aiming to build on their domestic double of Serie A and Coppa Italia won last season.
