Robin Gosens has said goodbye to Fiorentina and is heading back to the Bundesliga, this time with Schalke 04. According to Sky Sport Deutschland, with confirmation from Sky Sport Italia, Gianluca Di Marzio and Fabrizio Romano, a full agreement has been reached between the two clubs and on personal terms: the deal is a loan with an obligation to buy set at €2.5 million plus bonuses.
The German wing-back, who turned 32 at the start of July and was contracted to the Viola until June 2028, had been left out of new coach Fabio Grosso's plans and was even omitted from pre-season training at Viola Park. Fiorentina, for its part, was happy to accept a minimal fee in order to take his wages off the books.
For Gosens it is a return to Germany after his spell at Union Berlin in 2023-24: a Schalke supporter growing up, he had never actually worn the club's shirt. His career in Italy began at Atalanta in 2017, before a €27.4 million move to Inter in 2022.
