John Stones set for Inter Milan medical after agreeing free-agent move

John Stones is on the brink of becoming an Inter Milan player, with the England international scheduled to fly to Italy on Thursday July 30 for his medical examinations. The 32-year-old centre-back has agreed a two-year contract worth €4 million per season net after leaving Manchester City as a free agent.

Stones spent a decade at the Etihad, winning multiple Premier League titles and the Champions League under Pep Guardiola. His contract expired on June 30, making him one of the most high-profile free agents on the market this summer. The defender attracted interest from Juventus, Arsenal and Chelsea, but ultimately chose Inter after holding talks over the weekend.

According to Sport Mediaset, Stones will land in Italy on Thursday and undergo his medical tests shortly after, before putting pen to paper on a deal that runs until June 2028. He is currently on holiday following England's World Cup campaign, where the Three Lions finished third in the 2026 tournament.

At San Siro, Stones will reunite with former Manchester City teammate Manuel Akanji, who joined Inter in a separate deal earlier this summer. His arrival adds Premier League experience and ball-playing ability to Simone Inzaghi's backline, which already features the likes of Alessandro Bastoni and Francesco Acerbi.

The move represents a significant coup for Inter, who secure a proven defender with over 80 England caps on a free transfer. Stones is expected to join his new teammates once they return from their pre-season training camp in Germany.
