COLLEGE PARK, Ga. — Jordin Canada drove the length of the floor and finished a layup at the buzzer, giving the Atlanta Dream a dramatic 93-91 victory over the Chicago Sky on Sunday night — a win that was overshadowed by a concerning knee injury to star forward Angel Reese.
The Dream appeared to have the game under control, leading by as many as 22 points, before a furious Sky rally forced a tie in the final seconds. Sydney Taylor rattled in a deep three-pointer with 4.0 seconds remaining to knot the score at 91-91, silencing the home crowd in College Park.
But Canada had the final answer. Taking a handoff from Brionna Jones on the right wing, she accelerated toward the basket and released a left-handed layup just before the horn sounded, sending the Dream to their seventh consecutive victory over Chicago.
Allisha Gray led all scorers with 29 points for Atlanta (16-10), while Canada stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, nine assists and three steals. Madina Okot provided a spark off the bench with 14 points and four rebounds in just 11 minutes, and Brionna Jones pulled down 10 rebounds in 15 minutes in her second game back from a knee injury that sidelined her for the first 24 contests of the season.
The victory was Atlanta's third straight and fourth in five games, a welcome turnaround after a five-game losing skid.
For Chicago (9-17), Azura Stevens posted 20 points and nine rebounds. Taylor finished with 18 points, and Kamilla Cardoso added 15 points. The Sky had their two-game winning streak snapped.
The game took a solemn turn early in the fourth quarter when Reese's knee buckled as she came to a jump stop under the basket. The rookie star immediately grabbed at her knee and fell to the floor, later returning to the bench on crutches before being ruled out for the remainder of the game. The severity of the injury remains unclear.
The Sky were also without Skylar Diggins (knee) for a sixth straight game, while Atlanta's Te-Hina Paopao (leg) missed her second consecutive contest.
Atlanta now heads to Dallas to face the Wings on Wednesday, while Chicago travels to New York for a matchup with the Liberty.
