McBride shot 9 of 14 from the field, including four 3-pointers, as Minnesota improved to a league-best 20-6. The veteran guard topped 20-plus points for a sixth consecutive game and moved past No. 20 Becky Hammon (5,841 career points) on the all-time scoring list with a 3-pointer that gave the Lynx an 86-76 lead with 5:14 remaining.

Natasha Howard added 16 points for Minnesota, which finished off a four-game homestand. Rookie Olivia Miles recorded 14 points and 10 assists, Courtney Williams scored 15 and reserve Dorka Juhasz contributed 12.

Bridget Carleton led Portland (11-15) with 22 points, while Carla Leite and Sarah Ashlee Barker both scored 21 for the Fire.

Miles sank a 3-pointer to open the scoring for a 7-4 lead and the Lynx never trailed from there. Carleton hit a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 53-50 with 6:11 remaining in the third quarter, but Nia Coffey and McBride answered with back-to-back 3-pointers and Portland got no closer.

The Lynx continue their homestand against the Seattle Storm on Monday, while the Fire host the Dallas Wings on Wednesday.
