INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Fever pulled off a stunning 108-88 victory over the New York Liberty on Saturday night, rallying from a 13-point deficit behind a sensational performance by Kelsey Mitchell.
Mitchell finished with 33 points on 10-of-14 shooting, recording back-to-back 30-point games for the first time in her career. The Fever guard has now scored at least 20 points in 10 consecutive games, a streak that has propelled Indiana up the standings.
Caitlin Clark added 17 points, coming off her historic 45-point, 10-assist performance against Seattle — the first 40-point, 10-assist game in WNBA history. Clark also delivered a key moment, converting a three-point play early in the third quarter that gave Indiana its first lead of the game at 50-49.
New York had started strong, taking a double-digit lead in the first half and stretching it to 13 points. Marine Johannes was electric in the opening minutes, scoring 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point range, all in the first seven minutes. But the game turned decisively in the third quarter.
The Fever's defense clamped down: the Liberty committed nine of their 15 turnovers in the third period alone and were outscored 28-12. The run completely shifted the momentum.
Breanna Stewart led New York with 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting, but it wasn't enough to stop the bleeding. The Liberty (13-12) have lost four in a row, six of their last seven, and five straight on the road.
Johannes left the game early in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury and did not return. Leonie Fiebich (foot) and Satou Sabally (concussion protocol) did not play for New York.
Clark was assessed a technical foul in the opening moments after a hard screen by Jonquel Jones went uncalled.
The Liberty wrap up their five-game road trip Monday at Dallas. The Fever host Connecticut on Wednesday.
