Lazio have recalled Alessio Romagnoli for pre-season training after his proposed transfer to Al Sadd hit an unexpected roadblock, creating a tense standoff between the Serie A club and the defender.
According to [La Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Serie-A/Lazio/23-07-2026/lazio-scontro-con-romagnoli-convocato-ma-lui-vuole-l-al-sadd.shtml), the €3 million deal was agreed but Al Sadd requested to defer payment until January 2027 due to restrictions on international money transfers imposed in Qatar amid the Persian Gulf conflict. Lazio refused point-blank.
The club responded by summoning Romagnoli to Formello for pre-season medicals, and he could be available for Gennaro Gattuso's training camp as early as tomorrow. However, the defender has not given up hope of moving to Qatar, where he has been promised a lucrative three-year contract worth €6 million per season.
