Linda Noskova wins Wimbledon 2026 for first Grand Slam title

Linda Noskova is the Wimbledon champion. The 21-year-old Czech beat Karolina Muchova 6-2 5-7 6-3 on Centre Court on Saturday to win her first Grand Slam title, recovering from a collapse that has ended so many title bids before they begin.

The final turned into a study in survival. Noskova was the better player for almost the whole match: she took the first set, led 5-2 in the second and held three championship points on Muchova's serve. Then the nerves arrived. Five championship points came and went — Muchova saved three when serving to stay in the set — and the Czech, who had seemed so serene, was dragged into a decider after losing the second set 7-5 in 71 minutes.

"It was so tense, not just for the players but for the people around me," former British No 1 Laura Robson said from the stands. Noskova hid her head in a towel as her support box watched in silence. She went to the bathroom — "I just splashed some cold water on me, started over again," she said — and returned a different player: three break points saved in her first service game of the deciding set, a break of the Muchova serve in the next, and no way back for her opponent. On championship point number six, a serve that Muchova could barely touch sealed the 6-2 5-7 6-3 victory.

John McEnroe called it "one of the all-time greatest efforts you will ever see on this court". For Muchova, who lost the French Open final to Iga Swiatek earlier this season, it was a second Grand Slam final lost in three sets.

The moment carried a deeply personal weight for Noskova. With her father Drahos watching from the stands, she dedicated the title to her mother, Ivana, who died of cancer on the eve of Wimbledon 2024. "There's one more person that I want to thank, which is my mum. I would definitely not be standing here without you, so thank you," she said, kissing her hand and raising it to the sky. Petra Kvitova and Martina Navratilova, watching from the Royal Box, were both in tears.

Noskova becomes the youngest Wimbledon women's champion since Kvitova, also 21, in 2011, and the third Czech winner in four years after Marketa Vondrousova (2023) and Barbora Krejcikova (2024). "There's always someone that we can look up to and just say 'if it was them, why not me?'" she said before the final. "It's a tradition at this point."
