Luciano Darderi will be the second seed at the ATP 250 event in Los Cabos, Mexico, as the Italian begins his North American hard-court swing following a semi-final run at the Estoril Open. The 24-year-old is the only Italian player in the main draw at the Mexican tournament.
Darderi, who broke into the top 50 this year, has opted to kick off his US hard-court season in Los Cabos rather than the more traditional Atlanta or Newport stops. The decision gives him an opportunity to find his rhythm on the surface ahead of the Masters 1000 events in Montreal and Cincinnati later in August.
As the No. 2 seed, Darderi receives a first-round bye and will begin his campaign in the second round against either Czech qualifier Dalibor Svrcina or Australian Adam Walton. Should he advance, a potential quarter-final looms against Canadian Denis Shapovalov, while former top-10 player Cameron Norrie could await in the semi-finals.
