The situation had been complicated from the start of last summer's deadline-day arrival from Galatasaray, on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season. Because it was such a rushed move to get in before the transfer window closed, the two parties agreed to discuss the salary at the end of the campaign. When negotiations proved difficult, Zaniolo refused to attend pre-season training, instead sending a doctor's note while his entourage continued talks.
According to Calciomercato, his new wages will be worth €2m per season with bonuses, but the key element is the changed salary structure. The new deal guarantees a more fixed salary rather than splitting it with performance-related add-ons.
