Olimpia Milano claimed their third consecutive Italian Super Cup title and the seventh in club history, defeating Reyer Venezia 94-87 after overtime in Saturday's final.
Milan appeared to have the game under control from the opening tip, closing the first quarter with a commanding 22-8 lead. The Armani side built the advantage to as many as 19 points in the second period, looking set for a comfortable victory.
But Venezia refused to fold. Ettore Messina's side clawed their way back into the contest over the course of the game, turning the final minutes into a dramatic battle. With the score tied at 74 in the closing stages of regulation, Milano hit a three-pointer to move ahead 77-74. Venezia responded immediately, scoring to take a 79-77 lead — their first advantage of the entire game.
With the championship seemingly slipping away, Milano managed to force overtime, tying the game at 79-79 at the end of the fourth quarter. In the extra period, the Italian giants showed greater composure and offensive execution, pulling away from Venezia to seal the 94-87 victory.
Moses Wright was the standout performer for Milano, finishing with 23 points and six rebounds and playing a decisive role in his team's success. Leandro Bolmaro added 17 points while Marko Guduric chipped in with 15. For Venezia, Kyle Wiltjer led the scoring with 14 points.
The win represents another step forward for an Olimpia side that continues to dominate Italian basketball. After lifting the Super Cup in the previous two editions, Messina's squad demonstrated they can handle high-pressure situations, recovering from Venezia's remarkable comeback.
For Venezia, the defeat stings, but the character shown in erasing a 19-point deficit and pushing the game into overtime bodes well for the upcoming Serie A campaign.
