Real Madrid have officially announced the signing of French center Olivier Sarr, with the 27-year-old agreeing a two-year contract that runs through the end of the 2027-28 season. The club confirmed the deal on Saturday 15 August, adding frontcourt depth ahead of the 2026-27 EuroLeague campaign.
Sarr arrives from the Cleveland Cavaliers, the latest chapter of a professional journey that began when he went undrafted in 2021 after a college career at Wake Forest and Kentucky. He built his reputation in the NBA and the G League, spending most of his NBA time with the Oklahoma City Thunder before joining Cleveland. Across 50 NBA appearances he averaged 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 39.1 percent from three-point range, and he was a consistent double-double threat in the G League.
Madrid moved for a big man after Usman Garuba suffered a serious Achilles injury, leaving the club short of size in the paint. Sarr's profile fits the brief: mobility, rim protection and the ability to stretch the floor with his outside shooting, attributes that should allow him to contribute immediately to the team's rotation.
