No Limits Trackdays has confirmed that a rider died following an incident during its European track day at Mugello, the circuit that hosts the MotoGP Italian Grand Prix.
One of the UK's largest trackday companies, No Limits said the fatal accident happened after a machine suffered a mechanical failure, depositing oil on the circuit. Several riders were caught out by the contamination and fell from their machines. The session was immediately red-flagged and the full circuit medical response was deployed.
Despite the swift and professional actions of the medical team, one rider sadly succumbed to their injuries at the circuit, the organisers said in a statement. The rider has not been named out of respect for their family.
The European event was held in partnership with DG Events. In a statement issued on behalf of managing director Mark Neate, the company said: "It is with profound sadness that we confirm the loss of a rider following an incident at Mugello Circuit during our European track day, held in partnership with DG Events."
"During the session, one machine suffered a mechanical failure which resulted in oil being deposited on the circuit."
"A number of subsequent riders were caught by the contamination and fell from their machines."
Neate said the company is "fully committed to cooperating with the relevant authorities" as they investigate the circumstances of the incident, and that No Limits will conduct a thorough review of its own procedures in partnership with the circuit and its event partners.
The statement added: "Our immediate priority remains the wellbeing of the family, of those riders who were involved, and of everyone who is affected by this terrible news."
No Limits Trackdays was established in 1993 and has grown into the UK's leading provider of motorcycle track days, running events at circuits across Britain and Europe. The company said the safety of every rider has always been, and will remain, the foundation of everything it does.
Neate added: "To lose a rider in these circumstances is a grief we will carry for a long time."
