Sassuolo have reached a broad agreement with Verona for Scotland international striker Kieron Bowie in a deal worth €10 million, with Samuele Mulattieri moving in the opposite direction.
According to Sportitalia transfer pundit Alfredo Pedullà, today's discussions bridged the remaining gaps between the clubs and the move is nearing completion. The deal is structured as a loan with an option to buy that can become an obligation if certain performance conditions are triggered, totalling €10m.
Bowie will remain in Serie A despite Verona's relegation, having impressed since arriving from Hibernian for €6m in January. The 23-year-old contributed four goals and one assist in 14 appearances for the Gialloblu, offering a rare bright spot in an otherwise difficult campaign that saw the club relegated. His performances caught the attention of several clubs, with Cagliari and Celtic also monitoring his situation.
The Scotland international, who turns 24 in September and has earned two senior caps, had also attracted interest from Cagliari in Serie A and Celtic in his homeland. However, Sassuolo emerged as the more determined suitor after holding extensive talks with Verona's hierarchy and are now close to finalising the transfer. The Neroverdi see the Scottish striker as a key piece in their project going forward.
At the same time, Sassuolo will loan 25-year-old striker Samuele Mulattieri to Verona. The former Inter youth product spent last season on loan at Deportivo La Coruña, where he gained valuable experience in Spanish football, and will now get another opportunity in Serie A with the newly relegated side. For Verona, Mulattieri represents a ready-made replacement as they prepare for an immediate push to return to the top flight.
The deal represents a significant investment for Sassuolo as they look to strengthen their attacking options, while Verona secure a capable replacement in Mulattieri to lead their line in Serie B. Both clubs appear satisfied with the terms, with paperwork expected to be completed in the coming days.
