However, Argentina's defeat preserved two important Azzurri records: Italy remain one of only two nations (alongside Brazil) to have won the World Cup in two consecutive editions, achieving the feat in 1934 and 1938. Furthermore, Italy and Germany remain the only teams to have won the World Cup four times, behind Brazil on five, while Argentina stay on three.
