Marina Mabrey scored 30 points and the Toronto Tempo held on to beat the New York Liberty 93-91 on Sunday in a historic regular-season showcase at the Centre Bell in Montreal.
The expansion Tempo (10-13) built a 20-point cushion before a furious Liberty rally threatened to flip the result. New York (13-11) chipped away in the second half but Toronto found enough answers down the stretch to protect the lead and snap a four-game losing streak in front of a raucous Canadian crowd.
Mabrey set the tone throughout for Toronto, while New York leaned on its veteran core to claw back into contention. The win marks another milestone moment for the first-year franchise, which continues to draw attention with its cross-border home games.
