Yann Sommer joins Club Brugge on three-year deal after Inter Milan exit

Yann Sommer has signed for Club Brugge on a three-year contract as a free agent, ending his three-season stint with Inter Milan.

The 37-year-old Swiss goalkeeper arrives in Belgium to replace Simon Mignolet, who retired in May at age 38 after helping Brugge win the Belgian league title. Sommer returns to the Champions League stage after helping Inter Milan reach the final in 2025, where they were beaten 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain.

During his time at the San Siro, Sommer established himself as a reliable presence between the posts, winning back-to-back Serie A titles with the Nerazzurri. His departure comes after Inter were eliminated by Bodø/Glimt in the knockout playoffs of last season's Champions League.

Before his Italian adventure, Sommer spent time at Bayern Munich, where he won the Bundesliga in 2023. His career began at Basel, where he won multiple Swiss league titles and developed into one of Europe's most consistent goalkeepers. Internationally, he earned 94 caps for Switzerland and played at three World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022), retiring from the national team after Euro 2024.

Club Brugge will hope Sommer's experience at the highest level — including the Champions League final run with Inter — can help them compete both domestically and on the European stage in the coming seasons.
