Luciano Darderi vede sfumare il sogno di una seconda finale consecutiva dopo quella persa a Bastad. L'azzurro, numero 21 del mondo e testa di serie numero 2, è stato sconfitto in semifinale all'ATP 250 di Estoril dal belga Alexander Blockx con il punteggio di 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 dopo 2 ore e 45 minuti di battaglia.
Tanti i rimpianti per il 24enne italo-argentino, che nel secondo set aveva servito per il match sul 5-3 prima di subire il break decisivo. Nel tie-break conclusivo Darderi era avanti 4-0 prima dell'ennesima rimonta dell'avversario, che ha vinto sette punti consecutivi.
Darderi aveva raggiunto la semifinale dopo una settimana positiva sulla terra rossa portoghese, confermando il buon momento di forma dopo la finale raggiunta a Bastad la settimana precedente (persa contro Andrey Rublev).
Blockx affronterà Luca Van Assche nella finale, la prima nel circuito maggiore per entrambi.

Luciano Darderi's bid for a second consecutive ATP final fell short as the world No. 21 lost a dramatic semifinal at the Estoril ATP 250 to Belgium's Alexander Blockx 5-7, 7-6, 7-6 in two hours and 45 minutes.
The Italian second seed had numerous regrets after serving for the match at 5-3 in the second set before being broken back, and leading 4-0 in the decisive tie-break only to lose seven straight points.
Darderi had enjoyed a strong week on Estoril's clay courts, building on his runner-up finish at Bastad the previous week where he lost to Andrey Rublev.
Blockx will face Luca Van Assche in the final in what will be the first ATP Tour level final for both players.
