Marco Bezzecchi has undergone a routine procedure to clean the wound on his left knee, following his heavy crash during Q2 qualifying at the German MotoGP Grand Prix at the Sachsenring (10–12 July). Aprilia Racing confirmed the operation was a "routine procedure" and that the Italian rider has already returned home.
The 2026 season started brilliantly for Bezzecchi, who dominated the early rounds and led the championship after a commanding victory at Mugello in May. However, his fortunes changed dramatically at the Sachsenring, where he suffered multiple injuries in a violent crash during qualifying. The following day, he underwent surgery for a fractured collarbone. On Friday 18 July, he underwent a second procedure to clean the wound on his left knee — a direct consequence of the same crash.
Aprilia Racing issued a statement confirming that Bezzecchi underwent the procedure at a hospital near the circuit, and that he has since been discharged and returned home to focus on his recovery. The team expects him to be fit for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 7–9 August, where Bezzecchi took his first win with Aprilia in 2025.
