Sassuolo have reached an agreement with Bologna for Argentine winger Benjamin Domínguez, with the 2003-born attacker set to join on loan with an option to buy.
According to Sky Sport Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio, the two Emilian clubs have agreed terms for the wide player, who has found first-team opportunities hard to come by at the Stadio Dall'Ara. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Monday morning that Sassuolo had stepped up their interest in the 2003-born winger, with the idea of a loan deal including a purchase option. The final details still need to be sorted out before the move is made official.
Domínguez spent two seasons in Bologna colours, making 39 appearances and scoring three goals in all competitions. Last term he featured in 20 games and provided three assists, but playing time remained limited under Vincenzo Italiano and, more recently, Domenico Tedesco — a situation that convinced the player and the club that a fresh start was the best option for everyone involved.
Sassuolo, who impressed as a newly promoted side by finishing 11th in Serie A last season, are strengthening their attacking options ahead of the new campaign. That fine season at the Mapei Stadium showcased the work of Fabio Grosso before he was picked up by Fiorentina, and the Neroverdi now see Domínguez as a versatile addition capable of operating on either flank.
The club are also working on departures: Kristian Thorstvedt is a target for Fiorentina, who would like to include a technical counterpart in the deal, while Andrea Pinamonti has emerged as a strong candidate for Lazio.
Domínguez, ready for a new Serie A adventure, is expected to complete the usual formalities in the coming days as Sassuolo look to finalise the deal before the close of the summer window.
