Real Madrid have ended months of uncertainty over Vinicius Jr's future by confirming the Brazil winger has signed a contract extension running until 30 June 2032.
The 26-year-old's previous deal was due to expire in June 2027, and his situation had become one of the most closely followed stories of the European summer. Arsenal, the reigning English champions, were repeatedly linked with a move for the forward, with reports suggesting they were monitoring negotiations and exploring a potential approach. Thursday's announcement removes any prospect of Madrid losing one of their most valuable assets on a free transfer.
"Real Madrid and Vinicius Jr have agreed to extend our player's contract, which now keeps him with the club through June 30, 2032," the club said in a statement. "Vinicius has become one of the most important players during one of the most successful periods in our history."
Vinicius arrived from Flamengo in 2018 as an 18-year-old and has developed into the defining attacker of Madrid's recent era, scoring 128 goals and registering 100 assists for the club. His trophy haul in the Spanish capital includes two Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns, and he now becomes a central figure in the new project being built under Jose Mourinho, who returned for a second spell in charge in June.
The extension is a significant statement of intent from Madrid after a difficult campaign by their standards. The record 15-time European champions finished runners-up to Barcelona in La Liga, were eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals and ended the season without a major trophy. Securing Vinicius' long-term future signals that the club's core attacking talent will remain in place as Mourinho reshapes the squad.
Vinicius also endured a demanding summer at international level, with Brazil eliminated by Norway in the last 16 of the World Cup. The renewal ensures that the next chapter of his career — his first under Mourinho — will be written at the Santiago Bernabeu.
